The dreams of large steel mills for almost free scrap and the “western” dream of an army of illegal immigrants meet in a series of slums in the shadow of the Parthenon. Which one crashes? Three Roma from Albania, two Indians, a Turk and a single Greek, among them a child, just a sample of the vast army of desperados who recycle the metals of an entire country, are the heroes of “Raw Material” and raw material the same, primitive foragers in the heart of our modern European capital. “Raw Material” is the record of their toil in the city, in the natural cycle of the seasons and in the frenzied cycle of global economy.
